Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Mosaic v1.0.0.
How do I get started with Mosaic?
When you first launch Mosaic, you will be guided through a brief onboarding process:
- Enter your birth date to confirm you are 18 or older and to configure your life calendar;
- Acknowledge the safety notice and local-storage information;
- Select the habit you wish to focus on (e.g., Porn/PMO, Social Media, Nicotine, Alcohol, or Custom);
- Complete 3 initial reflection questions to clarify your intention;
- Complete the decision ceremony by holding the commitment button.
You can begin using all features immediately without creating an account or entering an email address.
Why does Mosaic celebrate "freedom days" instead of counting down?
Traditional habit trackers often treat recovery as a grim sentence: "survive 90 days." Mosaic's philosophy is rooted in celebrating freedom from day one.
Each day without the habit is a freedom day that you have already reclaimed. Streaks are dynamic celebrations of forward progress, not finish lines with deadlines.
What is the Mosaic Brain and how does it fill?
The Mosaic Brain is an animated visual artwork made of 90 polygonal cells (45 per hemisphere). One cell illuminates for each consecutive freedom day.
During your current day, that day's cell fills progressively with an animated liquid meniscus. When you reach 90 consecutive freedom days, that brain is completed forever and stored permanently in your Brain Gallery. Day 91 begins a fresh mosaic brain while your overall lifetime freedom count continues growing.
What happens when I tap "I'm feeling an urge"?
Tapping "I'm feeling an urge" opens the Urge Navigator. It offers:
- A 60-second guided box breathing exercise to ground your physiology;
- Cognitive reframing statements that recontextualize the urge as temporary neural noise rather than an irresistible command;
- An option to log the urge's intensity (1–5) and context tags so you can discover your patterns over time.
What happens if I slip? Is my progress wiped?
A slip is not a failure. In Mosaic, we use the term "slip" rather than shame-based language like "relapse."
When you record a slip:
- Your current continuous streak resets to day 1;
- Your total lifetime freedom days, best streak, completed brains in your gallery, and past reflections remain fully intact;
- You are guided through a non-shaming REBT reflection flow to identify cognitive distortions and fall forward into learning.
How do the Method lessons work? Can I skip ahead?
The Method consists of 31 sequential cognitive lessons exploring psychological reframing, cues, cravings, and mindful decision-making.
On your first reading, lessons unlock sequentially without skipping ahead. This deliberate pacing ensures that foundational insights are internalized step by step. Once a lesson is completed, you can revisit it in any order at any time.
How do daily reminders work? Are they discreet?
Daily reminders are entirely optional and scheduled strictly on your local device.
To protect your privacy in public or shared spaces, notification text uses neutral reflection phrasing (e.g., "Daily reflection: Take a mindful moment for yourself") without revealing habit names or personal history. No remote push server is involved.
How do App Lock and biometric security work?
In Settings → App Lock & Security, you can require Face ID, Touch ID, or a custom 4-digit PIN every time the app opens or resumes from the background.
Biometric checks operate through Apple's native system security dialogs. When using a custom PIN, it is salted and hashed before saving into secure storage.
What if I forget my in-app PIN?
Because Mosaic has no cloud account service or remote backdoor, we cannot remotely reset your PIN or recover your data if you forget your credentials.
On the PIN lock screen, you can tap "Forgot PIN?" to perform a local reset. This securely erases local data and PIN credentials and returns the app to the onboarding screen so you can start fresh.
How do I delete all my data from the app?
Navigate to Settings → Delete All Data.
Confirming this prompt deletes the local encrypted SQLCipher database, removes the database key and PIN hash from the device's secure storage, cancels scheduled notifications, and resets the app to the initial welcome screen. Note that this cannot delete prior device backups made by iOS or manual copies you created outside the app.
What accessibility features are supported?
Mosaic supports Apple Dynamic Type (scaling text up to 2.0x), full VoiceOver semantics with screen-reader labels for brain tiles and progress counters, high-contrast text ratios conforming to WCAG AA, and automatic settling of animated states when "Reduce Motion" is enabled in iOS Settings.
Does Mosaic block websites or connect to an accountability partner?
No. In release v1.0.0, Mosaic is an intentional, offline cognitive reflection companion. It does not enforce Screen Time blocking, install VPN profiles, or send messages to accountability partners. All progress is driven by internal reflection, cognitive reframing, and personal awareness.
